The Elly in Love Playlist

With each of my books, I’ve been known to become obsessed with a handful of songs that really bind and inspire the feelings and tone in each individual novel.

– For Elly in Bloom, there was a lot of Kelly Clarkson’s My December on the playlist as Elly worked through her feelings of jealously, despair and then finally rising to meet herself.

-For Queen, there was a lot of dramatic music playlists. You can read about both soundtrackshere.

-For Elly in Love, I worked to a number of pretty bouncy songs: the book takes place (originally) when Elly is the prime of her […]

Elly in Love is Finally Here!

Today is the day!! Finally, Elly in Love is here and available for purchase! You can buy it here:

http://www.amazon.com/Elly-In-Love-Colleen-Oakes/dp/1940716195

I can’t tell you how excited I am that readers get to see what Elly has been up to.

For starters, she is dating someone. Someone who smells like bread, and treats her very well.  A certain connoisseur of meats, shall we say?

Aside from that major part of her life, there is a new bride on her way to Elly that will change everything she thinks she knows about her role as a wedding florist.   And if you thought that you had seen […]

A Game of Summer Television

Ah, summer. The sound of crickets murmuring in the grass, cool evenings when the sun burns so long you swear the night will never come, the tart linger of lemonade on your tongue..

THE AWESOME NETFLIX and HBOGO shows that arrive on queue!!

Summer watching is here. It’s when we give up pretending that we care about other things, and after we eat dinner at 9pm, it’s down to the basement so that we can watch shamelessly in our pajamas, debating Brienne vs. the Hound, or laugh at the terrible wigs on the Americans.

Here’s what we’ve been watching lately:

Game of Thrones.  This […]

Marshmallows and Manuscripts: A Campfire Chat with Author Brittany Tuttle

For quite a long time, I’ve desired a revolving bi-weekly blog post that features authors.  As I find myself becoming more and more familiar and friendly with fellow authors, the more I want to shout  their brilliance to the world.   Since shouting on a street corner about your favorite book is, hmm, some would say insane, this seems like a better place to do it.

Here’s how to get in the right frame of mind for M&M: close your eyes. Then open them again so you can keep reading this blog.  Imagine you are sitting by a fire-pit, the crackling cinders […]

The Elly in Love Cover Breakdown

This cover has a long story, a history, if you will.  It begins about three years ago when I was asked to participate in a photo shoot with Laura Murray photography and Mile High Bride.   This was back when I owned Oakes Fields Wedding Florist.  You can read about the shoot here and here, but here are some of the gorgeous pictures that came out of it:

My favorite photos, however, were these two:

Laura is so talented. If you go to her blog, you will amazed. I had asked her to shoot some promo images for Queen of Hearts, […]

January Book Club: Snow Flower and the Secret Fan

Do you like our fancy mug that we gave away at our meeting? I found it at the thrift store. Last weekend, a group of friends gathered at P.F Chang’s to discuss “Snow Flower and the Secret Fan” by Lisa See. It was suggested by Kath, one of our new members, and, in this readers mind – and pretty much everyone elses – the book was almost flawless. My review:  […]

Holy Movie Reviews Batman! Featuring The Way, Way Back, Blackfish and more…

So, last week I sort of had this nervous breakdown where I was feeling out of the loop in pop culture and decided to go on a Redbox binge, which ended up costing me 26.00 for two movies since I forgot that I had them in my purse. This is why we can’t have nice things. It had been so long since we had seen a new release, and Ryan and I used to be on top of that. We aren’t people that watch every movie ever, but we are people who, I would like to think, are on top of our […]
